Habitat 2009 photoshoot
by kx0101 on Oct.16, 2009, under Photography
Wow! how time flies. It was just last year when I shot these guys for the first time. cool info for the gear heads i got a new camera!!. Got myself a canon 5dmark2 and I’m the process of selling my old equipment (d90)because of the upgrade.
What a great excuse to go out there and shoot than to test some new equipment in the field. Just a couple of heads up for those interested in this new cam. What i found really hard in this camera is to focus because it doesn’t have a AF assist beam on camera you have to buy the proprietary flash or as i did find someone close or with the band to point a flashlight to where you want to focus. Nevertheless once you got it is all bliss and beauty.
Logobeat promo video filming

Logobeat-0134, originally uploaded by kx0101.
Somewhere in the town of Aguada, Puerto Rico strange sounds are rumbling. Can you hear it! It’s not just a beat it’s Logobeat! Hung out with them last night while they were filming their promo video directed by multi-talented artist Mikey Figueroa (Somvazio_guitar). I couldn’t resist the opportunity to grab the camera to take some shots. Specially when they borrowed me a fish eye lens from the equipment they were using to film. Cool stuff! I’ve never shot with that kind of lens before. It was surprising to me the fact that when I was developing the photos all I was thinking was, “Damn! I think I nailed that 90′s grunge look. You can bet I’ll definitely will put one of these babies on my Christmas list.
Van Valentine @ Negocio de Abuelo, Moca

It’s hard to get tired of this guy: his music, his voice and the passion he puts in every performance is admirable and hardly seen anywhere else. Authentic emotion and raw naked vocals set this guy apart form the rest. In my opinion one of the most gifted singer song writers nowadays. If you are into folk music with the touch and electricity of rock and roll a la Pete Yorn, David Gray, or even Springsteen you’ll love Van Valentine’s Latest album “Tristeza”. check it out on itunes or your favorite store it is trully a masterpiece.

Recently finished editing this promo video for Puerto Rican rock band Habitat . Shot during one of their live gigs last week using the d90 and a 50mm f1.8 lens. Footage was edited in Premiere and color corrected using Red Giant’s Magic Bullet Looks plugin inside After Effects. The audio track was done using Ableton live. to mix the 3 songs used in the promo.
One lesson i learned during this project was that you can’t color correct every clip in Premiere’s timeline because it will make your project chunkier (it will add a filter to every clip!). I found the best way is to color correct using an adjustment layer inside after effects and start adding toggle hold keyframes from shot to shot to make the color variations change accordingly within your composition. This will save rendering times, cpu and would help you work leaner and meaner with big file sizes.
Regarding the audio it was really simple. I started with 3 songs from the artist in mp3 format. I load them on Ableton and chopped until i got the power intro from the first song and the choruses form the last 2 songs. Then i sequence the clips in the order i wanted (power intro-laidback chorus-outro chorus) overlap them a bit crossfade beween tracks and export as aiff.

Farewell Don Vitorio Torres-Crespo
by kx0101 on Feb.19, 2009, under Photography
Don Vitorio passed away today at 11:30am peacefully in his house with the company of his family and friends. He was soon to be 102 years old next week. However He lived enough to see his family grow with a solid bond and planted in them the seed of respect and honor for his fellow man and his country which he hold dear to his heart.
May he rest in peace

I'm no weather man but I did see it coming, around 4:30pm it started raining hard first thing a thought was i "Now this isn't going to happen" (thinking about the photo shoot) and we have to cancel the shoot and my trip to Mayaguez will be worthless. Never the less after 15 min of rain the sky cleared and we had enough natural light to shoot in outside and be able to walk around to find more spots. We went guerilla style and invaded the UPR Mayaguez campus camera in hand and my SB 800 flash mounted in my tripod. Deep in the belly of the university's Physics building we found a maze of corridors that connected the 2 amphitheaters the building has. it was a great spot and well lit. We manage to do 5 locations inside the university moving as fast as we could without driving too much attention to ourselves until the sun went down around 6:30. After reviewing the others I find this shot to be my personal favorite.
Last Sunday started for me around 1 pm, after a late night out i felt really tired and slept till late. However I knew I had to do something to shake off the laziness so I went to Cafelados in Aguada and got coffee the fix that i needed to get going. As I was driving down to Mayaguez from Aguadilla, a typical 40 min drive. I noticed that it was getting cloudy as i approached Mayaguez i was a little suspicious but i kept going till i arrived to my meeting with the guys from Aurasonico.
