It’s been almost a year since i heard this band for the first time. A lot of emotions flowed through me after listening Home one of the first tracks from their self titled LP. The kind of goosebumps associated after witnessing a superb artistic work unfold. I have to come clean saying that the track touched me personally on a soft spot mainly because i was away from my wife during an extended photo assignment in Puerto RIco while we were in the process of moving to TX so it kinda felt right to dub it as our relationship anthem as cheesy as that may seem nowadays.

However upon discovering more about the band I stumble upon two of their videos “Desert Song” and “Kisses over Babylon”. Immediately after watching the personal affection for the band turned into artistic admiration. This little unknown band at the time that my friends used to teased me about (because they seemed like characters out of Little House on the Prairie) manage to dazzle and create a visual style and narrative around a fantasy world reminiscent of old post apocalyptic movies of the 80′s but rebooted somehow without over stylized accents and just great cinematography granted with the exception of Desert Song which has more of a “trippy” colorful feel at times with their vfx treatment.

Anyway today they launch part 3 of SALVO!, a 12-part music video series from the band via VEVO so what i did here was to reunite all 3 videos released so far to take a closer look at the story and it’s development.

A little change of beat here as two titans and legends from our rock scene Miguel “Tito” Rodriguez (Sol d’ Menta) and Jose David Perez (Circo, Amplitude) join forces for an all out jazz jam at the Mayagüez Jazz Fest 2010. The session also featured Peter Torres in rhythm guitar and in alto sax Ricardo Bartolomei. Highlights of the session included jazzed versions of pop classics like The Eagles “Hotel California” and Cindy Lauper’s “Time after time” along with oldies like “Besame mucho” that prove to be instant crowd favorites.

Very intimate set with Davila 666 who played a couple of songs from their unreleased material as well as some b sides from their albums. Pretty cool stuff you don’t get to hear often.

Charisma, took the form of a woman last night at La Respuesta as singer songwriter Mimi Maura took the stage along with an all-star line up of musicians ranging from the likes of Sergio Rotman sax player for Los Fabulosos Cadillacs to Boris Bilbraut drummer from Puerto Rican reggae band Cultura Profetica. The audience enjoyed 2 fiery sets of REGGAE, ROCKSTEADY and SKA that kept them dancing throughout the night. Covering classics such as Bob Marley’s “Concrete Jungle” as well as showcasing Maura’s impressive work with her original songs from her “very hard to find albums” as she said humorously joking with the audience.

Special guests during the show included rock singer Fofe who performed a spell binding duet with Maura and Kianí Medina known for her work as back up singer for Cultura Profética. Also the brass section was completed with the participation of Johnny Boy Trombone player for Ska band La Fundación. Furthermore and to top the celebrations of the night the band surprised Maura with a very puerto rican version of the Happy Birthday song that fused the band and the audience together to congratulate Maura on her special day.

The show ended with two encores and very special a cappella rendition of an old cult classic “El Apartamento” dating from her years as lead singer from local band Alarma back in the early 90’s.

Mimi Maura currently resides between Puerto Rico and Argentina and has been awarded throughout her career recognitions such as PREMIO GARDEL 2002 for Best Solo Rock Performer. She has also toured Europe extensively being a veteran of such important festivals like the Actual Logroño Festival in Spain.

As hard as it is to differentiate your sound among the vast music cloud that populates the internet these days. Some artists have managed to stay true to their vision and keep struggling during the hardships and perils of making music these days. That’s the case of Celestina Robot whose latest efforts have placed them as a premiere band among the electronic music crowd.

Celestina, as the fans called it have made a strong impression via their live shows which currently incorporate 3d visuals, a move very in tune with today’s entertainment technology. Celestina’s music has a strong electronic core which gets topped with a rock and roll attitude and heavy guitars riffs. As Wilfre Carrasquillo, guitarist and band founder tells us “The way we work is different from other bands in the island. Others may start as a rock band and then add the electronic elements as if it was frosting to a cake. With us is different Celestina Robot is electro and rock”.

Celestina Robot’s lattest effort Beautiful Accidents (2008) is available via a FREE digital download through their profile at Reverb Nation Currently the band is working on their next album Ultimatum which will feature a more aggressive and sound as the band tries to find the perfect mix between the machine and man.
