Changing the tempo here just came back from San Juan after covering The Killers concert at Coliseo de Pueto Rico for Spinearth.tv (more on that soon). But before getting to my hometown Aguadilla, Jose David Perez told me that he had a gig that night something different , something lounger, and more relax. So i said “Cool… I’ll be there.” It was the birthday celebration of David’s girlfriend Jeh and the tiny ensemble composed of Amed Irizarry, Antonio Caraballo,Ariel Robles and José David himself fired up the small club on Piñero Ave. The music was self explanatory cool grooves, hot jazz licks all put together in a very modern fashion. After filming some guerrilla style stuff @ El Batey bar in old San Juan i got invited to the Rocksessions on tour @ Sr. Froggs. Ihave to admit that the corny humorous ambiance of sr froggs was a bit choking at first but once i got over that everything was cool. From the audioence point of view the organization seemed top notch, sound was great but not forgiving to everyone on the bill, specially for the more electronic type bands they suffered the most. The highlight of the show was Habitat and Los Negros Vivos both gave an awesome show. Habitat showing some of their new material merging a neo-detective/noir/mystery sound with rock and Los Negros Vivos with their classic ska sound got the attention of the audience real quick and left them screaming for more, including me. I don’t know if it was the alcohol in my blood or the music through the speakers but i found myself dancing on the pit with the camera in hand, just enjoying myself.

“Not even the rain can stop us” that was the battle cry from the bands that played on the indie rock fest yesterday.  music started at 2pm and lasted until 3am in the morning. All the bands played awesome sets against the weather. International bands like Los Fabulosos Cadillacs returning to Puerto Rico after almost a 10 year hiatus. From Mexico Pastilla and from Australia The Death Set headlined the event bill as well.

What a historic night rock band PUYA reunited on stage after their prolonged hiatus for a one time only show. Awesomeness…!! all the bands on the event gave their all and the public responded very well. On the other hand Prodigy was cool but I wasn’t happy about their dslr and press policies. They didn’t let us do our work out there and make em look good. Their production din’t allow photographers or any other media on the trench. What’s up with that? not cool at all.

What a show I won’t say anything just that i got home at 5am but it was worth it but I’ll let the pictures handle the talking this time.

We were a bit worried about the rain and the murders that occurred in Mayaguez that night. As we were driving to the venue we could see the police closing an area underneath the bridge of “el viaducto” leading to McKinley ST. To tell you the truth it kinda looked like they were filming CSI or Something it’s hard to distinguish reality from staged acts when you are on the spectator seat. Anyway back to business after the rain stopped we enjoyed the funky fresh music from Los Melancolicos de Marte and the various art projects from local artists such as Jason Ferrer among others.

Last night I got introduced to some new acts I’ve never seen before one of them was El Infame Nelson Poket & Los Ex Novios from the Dominican Republic. Who would have thought that there’s a rock scene over there happening below all the bachata and tropical rhythms the Dominican Republic is best known for.  I guess they see Puerto Rico the same way perhaps underneath all the reggaeton and merengue both countries are known for internationally shines a beacon of hope for those who breathe rock and roll.
