It was 5:00 pm when we arrived to what was supposed to be the welcome center of the event. By that time Mayaguez was already a war zone, barricaded streets and lots and lots of people flooding the town. The environment felt tense. There was anger, shouting and traffic. In my opinion the logistics went out of the window on this one.
However the people gathered there for a reason to be present at one of the years most important events where artists and music for one night took over a simple and small town on the west coast of Puerto Rico. There were aprox. 5 stages continuously playing music and showcasing live acts scattered through out town covering genres from reggaeton to electronica. I manage to follow the stages that were playing rock at some point; of course, that’s just what i do.
This year marked the return of PUYA playing their second show after the Medalla Stereo Music festival a couple of months before. Too many questions about the future of this enigmatic band are still in the air but for now they are rocking our brains out with their hard rock once again. Also old rockers Fiel a la Vega and La Mancha del Jardin shared the stage with the new breed of artists like Habitat and Somvazio.
